Former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud broke another NFL record Sunday in Texans’ comeback win over Bucs
COLUMBUS, Ohio — C.J. Stroud has had no problem making the transition from college to the NFL in his rookie season with the Houston Texans.
The former Ohio State quarterback had already set a new record for the most pass attempts before throwing an interception to start his NFL career. But now he is the owner of a record for the most passing yards and touchdowns by a rookie quarterback.
Stroud threw for 470 yards and five touchdowns while completing 30 of 42 passes — none of which were intercepted — in a 39-37 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The win also gave him a chance to show off his ability to lead a game-winning drive when he closed out the comeback win with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Tank Dell to break both records.
The win came despite Houston never leading the game and trailing 20-10 at halftime.
So far this season, Stroud has proven that the Texans made the right decision by taking him with the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft. He’s thrown for 2,270 yards and 14 touchdowns while only having one interception for a team that is 4-4. He’s done so while flashing a skillset that also made him a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist for the Buckeyes in 2021 and 2022.
As OSU’s quarterback, Stroud went 20-4 and ended his career second in career passing yards (8,123) and touchdowns (85).
