Bills fans accuse Broncos of cheating in Monday Night Game of Week 10
What is the Spider Tack that is at the center of the controversy?
The Denver Broncos are once again in the spotlight in the NFL. Buffalo Bills fans accused the Broncos of cheating to eke out a last-minute 24-22 victory in the Week 10 Monday Night Game.
Denver earned its third straight victory thanks to Will Lutz’s 36-yard field goal with four seconds left. However, after the loss, internet sleuths exposed the team’s alleged deception.
In a close-up of holder Riley Dixon’s hand, a brown stain is visible on the back of his right hand. According to Bills fans, said stain would be from a substance known as “Spider Tack.”
The substance is a type of glue used by weightlifters and wheelchair athletes to get a better grip. For this reason, MLB has already banned the substance, and although the NFL has not commented on the matter, it is prohibited from using similar materials, such as “Stickum.”
Proof of the crime
In addition to the fact that it is not known what caused the stain on Dixon’s hand, it appears only on the back of his hand. Despite this, Bills fans and some media are asking the NFL to investigate the case.
Bills fans’ suspicions were based on the fact that Lutz had just missed a 41-yard attempt. However, the Bills were penalized for having 12 men on the field, so Lutz had another attempt, five yards closer to the posts.
“I’m sure that really helped them on the second kick the Bills set up fo’ them,” said one X user, while others just wonder if the alleged use of “Spider Tack” would be legal.
Bills arrived with an advantage
The Bills were the favorite for the duel played at their home, Highmark Stadium, arriving with a 5-3 record, while the Broncos were 3-5, after a disastrous first third of the season.
Fans expected Buffalo to have a smooth game, but a series of strategic lapses, including the mistake that gave Denver life, cost them the victory.
Given this, many fans are calling head coach Sean McDermott to account. They assure that better execution would have avoided a defeat, regardless of the rival’s alleged cheating.
