Buffalo Bills Expected To Pursue Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver For Playoff Push

The Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills are in both in interesting spots at this point in the season.  The Packers (6-8) have had enough success this year to think that the team can go on a run to end the season and have a very good chance to make the playoffs.  At the same time, losing out and finishing 6-11 isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

The Bills have had an up and down season, however, they are coming off an extremely strong 32-6 win over the New York Jets and are right in the middle of the AFC playoff picture.  One report has surfaced that states the Bills could go after one current Packer wide receiver for their potential playoff push.

The NFL Staff at Bleacher Reported highlighted how this move would be beneficial for Buffalo:

The Bills might not need a receiver for the final stretch of 2023, but they do have to figure out the receiver room in 2024. With Gabriel Davis set to hit free agency and the Bills looking for more production at the position, they could use another young receiver to get a look at before the offseason.

The Green Bay Packers Sign Former Buffalo Bills Tight End Prior To Kansas City Chiefs Matchup (Breaking)

Bo Melton is a bit undersized at 5’11”, 189 pounds, but he runs a 4.34 40-yard dash and has some juice with the ball in his hands. Poaching him from the Packers practice squad would give the Bills a high-upside 24-year-old.

On Monday, Melton returned to Green Bay’s practice squad.

In Sunday’s loss to Tampa Bay, Melton played both offense and special teams and caught one of his two targets for seven yards. Due to injuries to Christian Watson (hamstring) and Jayden Reed (toe), the 24-year-old could return to the active roster once again next week.

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Melton in the seventh round, 229th overall, of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was waived on August 30, 2022, and he was signed to the practice squad on August 31, 2022.  The Packers have a plethora of young wide receivers at their disposal (injuries aside).  The team moving on from a player like Melton wouldn’t be surprising, however, with Melton getting his first career reception last week the team may be inclined to give him more playing time.
