Transfer QB Names To Know For The Miami Hurricanes: Poffenbarger, Salter & Tagovailoa

You can add a new possibility into the mix for the Miami Hurricanes: Albany transfer quarterback Reese Poffenbarger.

Buzz has been growing since Thursday evening that there could be mutual interest between Miami and the top FCS quarterback.

We took a deep dive on Poffenbarger below on my Locked On Canes podcast.

Miami, Mario Cristobal in serious talks to make him football coach

In two seasons as the starter for the Great Danes, Poffenbarger has thrown 60 touchdown passes to 17 interceptions. He threw for 3,614 yards with 36 touchdown passes in 2023. He also scored 6 rushing touchdowns.

Poffenbarger is aggressive with his deep throws and excels at delivering accurate throws on the run. He can extend plays with his athleticism and displays good instincts in the pocket. You can see why he feels he’s ready to make a potential jump to the Power Five.

Poffenbarger has two years of eligibility remaining.

If Miami did add him to their QB room, he would likely provide depth and competition. It would be hard to imagine an FCS transfer being handed a starting job. Jacurri Brown and Emory Williams would also push in practice for the QB1 spot.

Taulia is seeking an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA and is awaiting their verdict on his waiver request. If and when his waiver is granted, you can expect the buzz between him and Miami to grow exponentially.

For the Terrapins in 2023, Tagovailoa threw for 3,377 yards on 66 percent completions for 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Unlike Poffenbarger and Salter, Tualia has faced top competition on a regular basis in the Big 10.
