A look at how Miami’s Power Five 2024 opponents have attacked the transfer portal (and what it means for UM)

Miami has added key pieces in the portal that will make the Hurricanes improved in 2024. Here is a look at how UM’s opponents in 2024 fared in the portal?

In this modern age of college football, a roster can change in a hurry.

The NCAA Transfer Portal allows for player movement at the college level and every program around the country is faced with the same challenge: retaining the best players while adding players that improve the overall depth and talent.

Miami executed the retention phase of the offseason at a high level, bringing back key contributors like RB Mark Fletcher, WR Xavier Restrepo, OL Jalen Rivers, OL Francis Mauigoa, DL Rueben Bain, LB Kiko Mauigoa, and CB Damari Brown amongst others

The only player that UM truly had internal debate about whether or not to retain on the roster that did not stay with the program was wide receiver Brashard Smith, who transferred to SMU.

In the talent addition phase of the transfer portal cycle, the Hurricanes addressed their biggest immediate needs at quarterback, center, defensive tackle, and safety.

Miami has checked all those boxes in what is currently a transfer class that runs nine players deep.

Washington State quarterback transfer Cameron Ward is UM’s highest ranked transfer addition with a four-star transfer ranking, according to 247Sports, and a 94 grade.

As things currently stand on Thursday morning, Miami claims the No. 27 overall transfer portal class in the country.
