Report: Kevin Stefanski, Andrew Berry Set for Browns Contract Extensions in Offseason

Coming off an 11-6 record and a playoff appearance in 2023, the Cleveland Browns brain trust is poised to cash in with new deals.

Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry are expected to receive contract extensions from the Browns “sometime this offseason.”

Both Stefanski and Berry were hired by the Browns in January 2020 and received five-year contracts. They will be entering the final season of those deals in 2024 if they don’t sign extensions.

Stefanski was hired first when he was introduced as Cleveland’s head coach on Jan. 13, 2020. He spent the past 14 seasons working on the coaching staff for the Minnesota Vikings, including as their offensive coordinator for his final two years.

Berry was hired exactly two weeks later and became the youngest general manager in the NFL at the time (32 years old). He previously worked with the Browns as their vice president of player personnel from 2016 to ’18.

The Philadelphia Eagles hired Berry as their vice president of football operations for the 2019 season.

In the four seasons with Stefanski and Berry working together, the Browns have made the playoffs twice. Their victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2020 AFC Wild Card game was the franchise’s first playoff win since Jan. 1, 1995, when head coach Bill Belichick led them to a 20-13 win over the New England Patriots.

The last Browns head coach that led the team to the postseason multiple times was Marty Schottenheimer, who did it in four consecutive years from 1985 to ’88.

Stefanski won the NFL Coach of the Year award in 2020 and 2023. He’s one of 13 coaches in league history to win the award multiple times.

The Browns have a 37-30 record in four years with Stefanski as head coach and Berry as general manager.
