Rams running back Cam Akers traded to Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have traded for Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers on Wednesday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the Vikings are giving the Rams a conditional 2026 6th-round draft pick in exchange for Akers and a conditional 2026 7th-round pick.

The Vikings have confirmed the deal and say it’s pending a physical.

Akers, 24, has only played in the season opener this year, rushing 22 times for 29 yards and a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks. He was inactive for the NFC West matchup last week against the San Francisco 49ers.

Akers was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Florida State. He ran for a career-best 786 rushing yards and seven scores last season.

Per ESPN, Rams Head Coach Sean McVay mentioned the franchise was considering trading Akers. The running back is in the final year of his initial rookie deal.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Vikings use Akers and Alexander Mattison going forward in the backfield. In two games, Mattison has rushed the ball 19 times for 62 yards as the Vikings struggled to get their running game going.

The Vikings host the Los Angeles Charges on Sunday at noon.
