Breaking: Wolves closing in on a deal to sell £40m player

West Ham United are targeting Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman as a key defensive reinforcement this summer.

Wolves skipper Max Kilman has emerged as West Ham’s top target for their defensive overhaul. Kilman, acquired by Wolves on a free transfer in 2018, has become a crucial player, evidenced by his 150 appearances and recent captaincy following Ruben Neves’ departure in 2023. His consistent performances throughout last season, despite Wolves’ overall struggles, have attracted West Ham’s attention.

Incoming West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is a big admirer of Kilman from their time together at Wolves. Lopetegui sees Kilman as a valuable addition to solidify West Ham’s defence. While West Ham aims to sign multiple defenders, Kilman could be their marquee signing for the summer window.

However, acquiring Kilman won’t be straightforward. Despite having four years remaining on his contract, a move away from Wolves can’t be ruled out, especially with West Ham’s strong interest. According to Molineux Mix , Wolves’ financial situation might force them to consider selling their captain. The potential price tag for Kilman is estimated to be around £40 million.

West Ham’s determination to improve their defence will be tested by the high price tag demanded by Wolves. Whether they are willing to spend £40 million on Kilman remains to be seen, but his leadership qualities, experience, and Lopetegui’s existing relationship with him make him a very attractive target for the Hammers.
