Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur forgotten man Ryan Sessegnon, it has been claimed.

The 23-year-old faces uncertainty at Spurs after struggling to cement a regular place in the team, which has led to playing just 56 times in four years. New boss Ange Postecoglou is set to make a decision ahead of the new season.

Sessegnon played a total of 17 games last season before suffering a hamstring injury which saw him miss a total of 15 games. Steve Cooper, meanwhile, is said to be an admirer of Sessegnon from his time representing England under-21s.

According to The Sun, Spurs may be open to the idea of selling the midfielder or loan him out. The report adds that the Reds are “first in the queue” for his signature.

Cooper is keen to reinforce his midfield with new additions, as a number of players are expected to depart. Jack Colback departed at the end of last season, while Jonjo Shelvey’s future could also be away from the City Ground.

Sessegnon, meanwhile, has been highly praised by former Spurs boss Antonio Conte. “About Sess, we are talking about now a young player but a reliable player who I can count on for games in the Premier League or Champions League, for every game,” Conte said.

“He improved a lot and I remember very well since I arrived Sessegnon was another player. Now he is a reliable player and he has great confidence. He is strong physically and improved in his quality and technically.

“We are talking about a really good player, a young player that can become stronger but this is the difference between the other young players. We are talking about a player who played many games and is reliable for every game, he is ready.”

Talks are taking place over Nottingham Forest defender Richie Laryea extending his stay with Toronto FC.

The Canada international’s loan with his former club ended on Friday, meaning he is technically back under the Reds’ wing once again. But the MLS side are eager to keep him, and “active discussions” are being held.

“It’s not totally up to us now, he’s with another club. We’re trying to work it through with a deal that makes sense (with our salary cap). And then we have to respect Nottingham and what they want to do.

“It’s complicated but I can tell you it’s a lively discussion right now (for Laryea), and within the next 48-72 hours hopefully we can pull something off or else that’ll open up a slot that we need to make sure we (fill) with the right player because Richie is a fantastic player and a fantastic human being.”

The report suggests Laryea also has La Liga interest as he contemplates his future. It is said he is on a salary of $1,276,745 (little more than £1 million) with Toronto, with their financial situation needing to be taken into account as they have the highest payroll in the league.

Laryea has been in fine form for his loan club and is currently on international duty at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. He signed for Forest in January 2022 but struggled for game time at the City Ground, leading to him returning to Toronto on loan last summer.

Should Forest move Laryea on?
