Liverpool are among the sides ready to battle Newcastle United for the signing of Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

However, it is believed Palace are set to ask for bids in excess of £60million in order to sanction an exit for the impressive defender.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are also interested in Guehi – alongside Newcastle and Liverpool.

However, it is believed Palace’s asking price could make a deal too hard to do – even for the Premier League’s elite clubs.

Guehi dazzled yet again in his second season Selhurst Park since joining from boyhood club Chelsea.

He missed just one of Crystal Palace’s Premier League fixtures last term amid 40 total outings – and even captained the side on various occasions despite his tender age.

His form has also earned recognition on the international stage, with the centre-back now a fully-fledged England star.

The Chelsea academy product made his Three Lions debut in March 2022 and has gone on to make four appearances for Gareth Southgate’s side – including in last month’s qualifier win over Malta.

Guehi, who cost a reported £20million in 2021, earns £50,000-a-week (as per FBRef) on a contract which is set to run until June 2026.

Both Liverpool and Newcastle are also believed to be interested in Sporting CP centre-back Goncalo Inacio.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (4 July) that Jurgen Klopp wants to sign a centre-back and central midfielder to complete the Reds’ summer business after sealing a deal for Dominik Szoboszlai.

Newcastle would have to shell out £60 million for 22-yr-old target

Newcastle United are keen on improving their defensive options this summer and Marc Guehi has been identified as a potential target.

The 22-year-old was outstanding for Crystal Palace last season and he has proven to be a reliable defender in the Premier League.

It is no secret that Newcastle need to add more quality and depth at the back. They will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season and they will be up against the top-class attackers on a weekly basis.

Although Newcastle had one of the best defensive units in the league last season, they need to add more depth and quality.

Guehi could be a quality partner for Sven Botman at the heart of Newcastle’s defence next season.

According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle have been told that the player could be available for a fee of around £60 million this summer.

Although the asking price seems quite steep, Guehi has the potential to justify the outlay in the long run. The 22-year-old is still quite young and he is likely to improve further with coaching and experience.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world and they certainly have the financial resources to get the deal across the line.

Guehi has been linked with other Premier League clubs in recent weeks as well, and it remains to be seen whether the Magpies decide to act swiftly and make their move for him.
