‘Cross my fingers’ – Munoz on Owls’ transfers

Xisco Munoz has spoken out about the situation Sheffield Wednesday find themselves in in this transfer window.

Having been promoted from League One via the play-offs last season, Xisco Munoz will know that this Sheffield Wednesday squad needs upgrading this summer if the club are to compete in the Championship. However, the Owls haven’t yet been able to conduct much serious business.

Speaking to BBC Sheffield’s Football Heaven, as shared on their Twitter page, Munoz addressed the lack of transfer activity at the club. The Spanish coach said, “I know now exactly what we have in our team…for me, I don’t feel patient about this situation…the market is open and we try the selling, and the players that come in, it’s because we are selling…I cross my fingers.”

The Owls did fantastically to secure promotion last season, but many of their key figures are ageing and they lack depth in several key areas of the pitch. Munoz will be on the lookout for potential bargains or exciting loan opportunities as cost-effective methods of introducing some of the extra talent that his roster requires.

The club face a tough campaign in the Championship, and Munoz has big shoes to fill in replacing Darren Moore in the Hillsborough dugout. He will be hoping that Wednesday can bring in some new faces as early as possible so he has at least some time to work with them on the training pitch before the season begins in earnest.
