Alfredo Morelos has Watford transfer ‘interest’ but various Saudi options could tempt former Rangers star to Middle East

The striker has been without a club since leaving Rangers earlier this summer.

Alfredo Morelos is claimed to be mulling over transfer options in Saudi Arabia – but it may be the English Championship where the Rangers hero goes next.

During six seasons in Scotland, the Colombian international scored 124 goals in 169 appearances for the Premiership side but left this summer as a free agent after a disappointing 2022/23 term. Rumours have raged on over where he could next, from outlandish suggestions such as Azerbaijan and Spanish sunshine with Granada all mentioned.

The Athletic now claim that Morelos is wanted by Watford, who will be seeking a return to the Premier League they were relegated from two years ago. They state the 26-year-old ‘is considering a move to the Championship side’ but ‘is also reviewing various options from Saudi Arabia.’ Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has already gone to the middle-east this summer alongside a host of other stars while current Ibrox forward Fashion Sakala has rejected a move.

It’s believed the Hornets ‘want to bring in a forward and are currently reviewing their options before making a final decision.’ Morelos has previously stated his intention to remain in Europe.

Jamal Lewis has ‘point to prove’ after sealing Newcastle United loan exit and is ‘raring to go’

Jamal Lewis has struggled to make an impact during his three years with Newcastle United and the defender will now look to kickstart his career with Watford

Newcastle United defender Jamal Lewis

Jamal Lewis admits he has a ‘point to prove’ after the Newcastle United defender sealed a loan move to Watford. The Northern Ireland international will spend the season at Vicarage Road, with the Hornets holding an option to make the move permanent.

Lewis’ arrival at St James’ Park in September 2020 was seen as a coup, but the left-back has struggled to live up to expectations in black-and-white. Injuries and a loss of form has seen the 25-year-old slip down the pecking order, with Dan Burn and Matt Targett emerging as the first-choice picks under Eddie Howe.

Lewis made just 36 appearances in all competitions across three seasons, and will now look to kickstart his career with Watford. The former Norwich City defender is keen to help Valerien Ismael’s side earn a return to the Premier League, and admits he is ‘hungry’ to deliver on the pitch.

He told the club’s website: “It feels great to sign, and I’m raring to go now, I’ve had a good summer, and been away with Newcastle in pre-season, but once I heard there was interest from a club like Watford I was delighted. Knowing that the club’s ambition is to get back to the Premier League definitely resonated with me.

“It’s lovely to back to near where I’m originally from, and it means my friends and family will be able to come and watch me more often than in the past. It’s important to share these moments with those closest to you, so I’m grateful that I’m going to be able to do that while I’m here.

“On the pitch I definitely feel that I’ve got a point to prove. I’m hungry – which is the most important thing – and I’ve had many experiences under various managers and in different leagues which I think I can bring to the Watford team.”
