Sources: Steve Cook to undergo QPR medical as Nottingham Forest grant permission
QPR are poised to sign Nottingham Forest defender Steve Cook, sources have told Football Insider.
A deal has been agreed between the clubs and the player has been given the green light for talks and medical.
QPR are confident of finalising the transfer in the next 24-48 hours following the breakthrough in talks.
The 32-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at the City Ground after joining on a free transfer from Bournemouth last summer.
Cook made 12 appearances for Cooper’s side across all competitions last term before picking up a foot injury in February which sidelined him for the remainder of the campaign.
The centre-back previously spent over ten years at Bournemouth where he made 387 appearances for the club, netting 21 goals and offering up 11 assists.
QPR are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements with both Jake Clarke-Salter and Jimmy Dunne sidelined through injury.
The Championship side lost their opening game of the 2023-24 campaign in a 4-0 defeat to Watford last weekend (5 August).
Forest have made several new signings this summer, most recently announcing the arrival of goalkeeper Matt Turner from Arsenal.
Cooper has also signed Anthony Elanga from Man United and Chris Wood from Newcastle United following a loan spell last season.
Forest finished the 2022-23 campaign in 16th place and four points above the relegation zone following their promotion from the Championship.
They kick off their new campaign against Arsenal on Saturday (12 August).
