Brennan Johnson transfer: Tottenham plan, Brentford twist, Chelsea update, Postecoglou priority
Tottenham transfer news: Brennan Johnson could be set for a late summer move to the north London outfit despite interest from the likes of Brentford and Chelsea this summer
Nottingham Forest starlet Brennan Johnson has been linked with a move to a host of other Premier League clubs during the summer transfer window.
Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford have all been mooted as potential destinations for the 22-year-old, who is said to be valued at around £50million by Steve Cooper’s side. But time is running out for any possible move, with the transfer window set to slam shut on Friday night.
So, football.london has rounded up everything we’ve heard regarding Johnson’s future at the City Ground below.
Brentford twist
After seeing a £43million bid for Johnson rejected on Monday, Brentford have now withdrawn from the race for the Wales international, as per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Writing on X (formerly known as Twitter), Romano said: “Brentford have currently left conversations for Brennan Johnson focusing on different targets, Tottenham are prepared to insist in talks with Forest #THFC Spurs already held positive talks on player side and now discussions waking place on clubs side.”
Tottenham priority
Tottenham have made Johnson their priority for the final week of the summer window, football.london understands. After their 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday it has been revealed by Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold: “Understand Ange Postecoglou has made Brennan Johnson his number one attacking target for these final days of the window.
“Feels he’s the perfect fit for his Spurs system and versatile. Talks have taken place, tough deal to do though and it’s likely to be a late one if it happens.”
Tottenham bid ready
Tottenham are set to beat Chelsea to the signing of Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson before the summer transfer window closes.
Spurs are expected to submit a £50million bid to sign Johnson this week, according to The Telegraph. Tottenham could offer cash plus players, with centre-half Davinson Sanchez and winger Bryan Gil likely to be two players who could be part of any deal.
Andrey Santos impact
Andrey Santos has joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the 2023/24 campaign. The young Brazilian could have an impact on Forest’s decision whether to sell Brennan Johnson or not this summer given that they play in similar positions.
Steve Cooper’s experience in helping talented youngsters develop into top players could help Santos improve drastically this season before returning to Stamford Bridge next year.
Tottenham preference
Tottenham are preparing to launch their bid for Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson, according to Mail Sport.
The Wales international is valued around £50million by Forest who have already rejected offers over £35million from Brentford this window.
Chelsea and West Ham have also been considering bids for the 22-year old flyer but his preference should he go is understood to be Tottenham.
Nottingham Forest price tag
Nottingham Forest would seek £50million for Brennan Johnson this summer, with Chelsea interested in the attacker, sources have told football.london. The forward has been subject of bids from Brentford, per recent reports, but the East Midlands outfit have been holding out for a larger fee.
Chelsea interest
football.london understands that Brennan Johnson is very much liked by Chelsea as an option to join the club over the summer window. The Blues have opened initial talks with Nottingham Forest over signing the winger, following on from their collapsed deal for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.
