Premier League side Nottingham Forest and Serie A side Bologna are now finalising a mega swap deal involving Remo Freuler and Nicolas Dominguez.

Gianluca di Marzio has now reported that both the clubs are now working towards a closure of the swap deal, with Dominguez having given his approval to join the English side and Freuler also keen on returning to Italy with the Rossoblu, where Thiago Motta is keen.

The terms of the deal won’t be equal and the two clubs are finalising an agreement which could include transfer fees. Both players already have an agreement over personal terms with the sides that they can join this summer, with days left for the window to close.

Fenerbahce were previously linked with a move for Dominguez but the move never materialised and he is now likely to head to England.

Latest Nottingham Forest news as new Reds chairman Tom Cartledge outlines Premier League ambitions

Newly-appointed chairman Tom Cartledge believes Nottingham Forest shouldn’t limit their expectations of what might be possible, both this season and in the future.

The life-long Reds fan has taken over from Nicholas Randall KC as part of changes to the club’s board structure. And he has made clear he shares owner Evangelos Marinakis’ sense of ambition.

Having ended a 23-year absence from the top-flight, Forest retained their Premier League status with a game to spare last term. Ever since then head coach Steve Cooper has talked about wanting to build on that platform and push on, while Marinakis had outlined his desire for trophies barely 24 hours after promotion had been achieved.

Cartledge is also convinced the opportunity to make progress is one which should be grasped. And he believes setting targets of where the club can finish or how far they can go could be counterproductive.

“I think in life possibilities are limited by your own capacity to break through those boundaries, so I don’t believe we should be sitting here saying, why aren’t we getting to third or sixth or whatever the numbers might be,” Cartledge said. “If we do the very basics, which is do everything as well as we possibly can do, with ambition, with excellence in the way we deliver, the way we speak to people and the behaviours of this football club, we can break through boundaries.

“If you start setting expectation levels, you are there to be shot down in some respects. I don’t think we should be doing that. I think we should be saying, this amazing city that we love being part of, this amazing football club with the players it’s got and the players it’s going to attract in the future, shouldn’t limit itself with its own mindset.

“Maybe you could argue that the city itself has had some of that that it needed to break through. If we look at other cities, like the Manchesters and the Birminghams, the communities have driven greater activity and growth that we’ve probably not seen as much of in Nottingham. We want the football club to be a standard-bearer of ambition in the city, and that others can follow.”

Cooper’s side have put in positive performances away to Arsenal and Manchester United in their first two games on the road this season as they aim to improve their fortunes on their travels. Victory over Sheffield United at the City Ground sealed their first three points of the campaign.

On what the team should be targeting this term, Cartledge added: “I go back to the point of not setting a number or a position. We have to start to behave like a club that can win every football match, home and away. If you do that, we will win more than we lose, and therefore we will progress up the table. But it’s not right to say we want to just stay in the division, because I think the infrastructure in this club is better than that.”
