The former Celtic striker is a free agent after leaving Gulf United

Kelvin Wilson has told Celtic they should snap up Gary Hooper after his impressive performance in the masters and reckons he still has what it takes to play at the top level.

The former Hoops striker is a free agent after leaving Gulf United and Wilson knows he wouldn’t be a first pick but he reckons Brendan Rodgers could do worse than bring him in on a deal until the end of the season to provide back up to Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu in the forward line.

Hooper left Celtic in 2014 after 82 goals in 138 games before joining Norwich City and he then had spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Wellington Phoenix, Kerala Blasters, Omonia Nicosia and then Gulf United but Wilson still reckons he has what it takes to play in Scotland.

It would be a far cry from his last games for Gulf United in the second tier in Dubai but that hasn’t stopped Wilson urging Rodgers to make the move and bring him back to Celtic.

Wilson told the Scottish Sun: “I know you look at Celtic, and the players they can bring in, but I wouldn’t be surprised with Gary.

“Hoops could be a back-up player there and still score many goals for Celtic. I don’t understand why anyone would question it. That’s my opinion

“Gary knows the club inside out and the fans absolutely love him. It’s a no-brainer for me. He wouldn’t cost them anything, so yes!

“For sure he’d take that opportunity, he’d snatch your hand off for it.”
