Irish opportunity knocks as Liam Scales faces Champions League ‘acid test’ with Celtic

CELTIC’S £25.3 million EURO WINDFALL, OFFICIAL

For their achievements in the Champions League last season, CELTIC received precisely £25.3million.

With their portion of the TV revenue this time around, the Hoops are already on track to surpass that figure. They shared the prize money with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Ibrox team last season, but this time they are competing alone because the Govan club didn’t make the cut.

The Premiership champions were paid £13.6 million last time around as a participation fee for playing part in six games in Group F, where they lost both at home and away to Real Madrid and RB Leipzig and drew twice with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Each and every point gained in Europe is significant, and the Glasgow club received £1.65 million for the 1-1 draws with the Ukrainians.

While the match was taking place in Warsaw, Poland, Reo Hatate believed he had given Shakhtar the lead. However, the goal was ultimately given to defender Artem Bondarenko, and Giorgos Giakoumakis scored the game’s second goal.

Celtic received £25.3 million in gate receipts-free revenue last season.
