“You can’t disrespect any competition that you play in. It’s one of those, if you end up in the Conference League and win it, it’s worth it. If you don’t, then people probably look at it as an inconvenience. While we won’t agree with that judgement, it is fair to say that players’ words in interviews can’t always be taken at face value. Spurs fans would only be reassured of Kane’s commitment to Spurs if and when he signs a new deal.
If he doesn’t renew his contract here soon, the Englishman’s remarks would seem hollow. In response to Kane’s remarks regarding the team during their 2-2 draw with Manchester United, Graeme Souness recently referred to Kane as “media trained.”
Although we won’t concur with that conclusion, it is true that athletes’ statements in interviews can’t always be believed at face value. Only if and when Kane signs a new contract will Spurs supporters be assured of his dedication to the team.
