Leeds United head coach Sam Allardyce has criticised Maximilian Wober for giving away the penalty against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United at Elland Road in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Allardyce has told Leeds Live that Wober should have done better when the Leeds defender made the challenge on Newcastle striker Alexander Isak inside the area.

It was a poor challenge from the 25-year-old Austria international defender.

England international striker Callum Wilson made no mistake from the penalty spot.

The match eventually ended in a 2-2 draw.

Allardyce said about Wober: “First pen disappointing because all week it’s stay on your feet in the final third, especially in the box. Happened last week with Pascal and he got a bollocking at the end for diving in.

“Giving goals away. Cannot afford that because we are not prolific at the other end. Players under pressure lost it at that moment. ‘He believed he could win the ball.”

A point gained

Now, it was a disappointing challenge from Maximilian Wober, and Leeds United fans will not happy with it.

However, in the end, Leeds managed to pick up a point against Newcastle.

And that is very encouraging.

After all, Newcastle are a better team and are having a much better season than Leeds.

Eddie Howe’ side are in the top four of the Premier League table at the moment and could end up with UEFA Champions League football for next season.

So, for Leeds to have managed a draw is very good for the team, but they are still very much in real danger of getting relegated from the Premier League to the Championship at the end of the season.
