Tottenham have expressed an interest in hiring Luciano Spalletti as a replacement for Antonio Conte following his stunning season with Napoli.

The Italian – according to Il Mattino – is wanted by Spurs following a 2022/23 campaign in which he guided Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years.

Now – however – it seems as if Tottenham will have to explore alternatives to Luciano Spalletti.

What’s the story?

Well, the 64-year-old looks set to stay in Naples after becoming a hero amongst supporters.

Fabrizio Romano quotes Spalletti as saying: “We had a positive meeting with the president yesterday. The future is gonna be exciting, I’m sure of that.”

Luciano Spalletti confirms he’s set to stay: “We had a positive meeting with the president yesterday — the future is                 gonna be exciting, I’m sure of that”

Talks progressing over new contract valid until June 2025 after winning the title.

As things stand, the Certaldo-born tactician only has 12 months remaining on his contract at Napoli.

However, Romano believes discussions are well underway over an extension running until June 2025.

Tottenham options running out after Spalletti update

With Spalletti seemingly off the table for Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s options are running out.

The Athletic believe Julian Nagelsmann – who looked to be a frontrunner for the vacancy – is no longer under consideration by Spurs, despite a story from The Times claiming that the German was Levy’s No.1 choice.

Nagelsmann is available after Bayern Munich strangely decided to sack him a few months ago in favour of bringing Thomas Tuchel to the Allianz Arena, despite the fact he had lost just three games from 37 this season.

Mauricio Pochettino also doesn’t appear to be an option to replace Conte, with the Guardian claiming that Chelsea are close to hiring the Argentine.

The Daily Mail added that Vincent Kompany had been mentioned as a potential replacement for the Italian as well, but the Belgian has recently signed a new contract at Burnley.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see who Levy turns to now – be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as Spurs continue their hunt to replace Conte.
