David Moyes might have hinted West Ham man Ben Johnson will be sold this summer after strange substitution vs Leeds.
Ben Johnson seems to have regressed badly when playing for West Ham United this season.
The Hammers right-back burst onto the scene a few years ago, and looked like a tremendous talent, but he has clearly gone down in the estimations of David Moyes and the fans since then.
Johnson looks like an absolute shadow of the player that impressed so much when he made his debut for West Ham in 2019.
And I wouldn’t be surprised one little bit if Moyes sells the Hammers academy graduate in the summer transfer window…
David Moyes might have hinted West Ham man Ben Johnson will be sold this summer
The Scot brought the 23-year-old on as a substitute yesterday, with only a few minutes remaining in the game.
Everything is pointing towards an exit from West Ham for Johnson in the summer transfer window in my personal opinion. He recently suggested that he wants to repay the faith shown in him by Moyes (WHUFC.com). However, it seems like it might be too little too late for that.
The thing is, it didn’t really matter if we lost the game yesterday. So to bring Johnson on after 93 minutes, when we were 2-1 up just didn’t make much sense to me. We weren’t in desperate need of protecting the lead after all.
However, maybe Moyes had a plan in mind. I believe that Johnson will be off in the summer transfer window. Everton have been heavily linked with signing him.
And if the 23-year-old is planning to leave in the summer transfer window, yesterday would have been his final chance to get any minutes at the London Stadium.
Obviously I don’t know for sure, but I just feel like yesterday was Ben Johnson’s swan-song in a West Ham shirt at our Stratford home. And Moyes wanted to give him the opportunity to experience the love of the home fans one final time.
