Boa Morte To Leave Fulham For Guinea-Bissau National Team Role
March 18, (THEWILL) – Fulham’s first-team coach, Luis Boa Morte, will depart the English Premier League club at the end of the 2023/2024 season to take over as the manager of the Guinea-Bissau national team. The announcement came from Fulham on Monday.
The 46-year-old Portuguese has been part of Marco Silva’s coaching staff since 2021, following a successful playing career that included stints at Fulham, Arsenal, Southampton, and West Ham United. During his time as a player at Craven Cottage between 2000 and 2007, Boa Morte scored 54 goals in 250 appearances for the club.
Fulham expressed their gratitude for his contributions since his return, wishing him the best in his new role with the Guinea-Bissau national team. The former forward’s final game with the London club will be the EPL season finale against Luton Town.
Boa Morte’s appointment as the Guinea-Bissau manager marks a significant step in his coaching career, as he takes charge of an international side aiming to make their mark on the global stage. Boa Morte, who played for Fulham from 2000-2007, returned to Craven Cottage in 2021 following the appointment of Marco Silva as manager to form part of his coaching team.

Boa Morte, who spent six and a half years at Fulham as a player, returned to the club in the summer of 2021 following the appointment of head coach Marco Silva.
Guinea-Bissau announced in February they would not be renewing manager Baciro Cande’s contract following their group-stage exit at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Cande had been in the role for 17 years across two separate spells.
Boa Morte was part of the Fulham backroom staff as the club won promotion to the Premier League during Silva’s debut season in charge, before finishing 10th in the top flight the following season.
The 46-year-old represented Fulham between 2000 and 2007 and scored 54 times in 250 appearances. He was capped 28 times at international level by Portugal and also represented Arsenal, Southampton, West Ham United and Orlando Pirates in a professional playing career spanning 17 years.
Following his retirement in 2013, Boa Morte has held coaching roles at Fulham’s academy, Portimonense and Maccabi Haifa, with his only previous senior head coach position coming with Portuguese side Sintrense.
Boa Morte returned to English football in 2019 to become assistant manager to Silva at Everton. The pair have known each other since playing for Cova da Piedade in their native Portugal as teenagers.

Guinea-Bissau finished bottom of Group A at AFCON after losing all three games.
They have never qualified for the World Cup, while a group stage exit remains their best finish at AFCON.
