Fabrizio Romano says Vincent Kompany’s Burnley want to sign Leeds United defender Cody Drameh this summer but having gained promotion with Luton Town via the play-offs, Luton are keen to make his loan deal permanent.

Drameh, 21, played a crucial part in Luton’s promotion to the Premier League. He played 19 times for Rob Edwards’ side, helping Luton keep a hugely impressive 10 clean sheets in that time. He also laid on two assists for Edwards.

Luton won the play-off final on the weekend, as Jordan Clark’s effort was cancelled out by Gustavo Hamer. The match went to penalties, and Luton won 5-6. Drameh has a decision to make this summer on his long-term future.

His contract at Leeds is due to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season. Leeds have of course, been relegated. Drameh now has opportunities to play in the Premier League and you would expect he will now leave this summer.

The Yorkshire Evening Post have recently reported that his summer exit was “inevitable” and it now looks that way. Romano says Kompany is keen to lure him to Burnley – but Luton are also desperate to make his loan permanent.

Romano: Kompany wants Leeds defender Drameh but Luton also keen

You would expect Drameh to make his loan deal a permanent one. Having helped Luton secure a place in the top tier, it would be a surprise to see him then join a fellow promoted side. But, Burnley are a bigger club than Luton.

They won the Championship with ease, under a manager in the form of Kompany who of course, is a legend at Premier League level. It will certainly be tempting, but you would imagine that his loyalties will remain with Luton.

It depends whether Luton can meet the asking price Leeds will put in place for Drameh – which as things stand, is unclear. Having a year left on his deal will reduce that fee, as will relegation. But, you can still expect a decent fee.
