Report: Ipswich Town join the race for Derby County star

Derby County face a battle to keep hold of midfielder Jason Knight with three Championship clubs now trying to sign him.

The Daily Mail report that Bristol City have now made two offers to try and sign Knight.

The second offer was worth £1.5million and Derby have stood firm, telling the Robins there will be no deal at that price.

Derby still face a fight though with Bristol City now considering yet another approach for the Republic of Ireland international.

Newly promoted Ipswich Town are now joining the race with boss Kieran McKenna thought to be plotting a bid.

Stoke City are interested too, meaning Derby must now fend off at least three clubs in order to keep hold of Knight.

The biggest problem for Derby is with Knight’s contract.

The 22-year-old’s contract comes to an end next summer, meaning Derby are running out of time to sell Knight before he can walk away.

Knight was vital for the Rams last season, racking up 38 League One appearances with two goals and three assists to his name.

Knight has also been Mr Versatile for Derby, featuring in a number of midfield positions as well as at right back and even in the final third.

With 166 appearances to his name since arriving from Cabinteely in 2017, Knight has been a fixture of the Rams side for years now and few could blame him for wanting to play higher than League One.

Derby were of course hoping to take Knight back to the Championship at the end of this past season, but it just wasn’t to be.

More bids will likely come soon and it will be hard for Derby to completely rule out a sale with that contract expiration looming large.
