“I’m keen to move” – Burnley target open to summer transfer, Clarets had first bid recently rejected

Having missed out on Bart Verbruggen, Burnley are trying to find a new goalkeeper for Vincent Kompany ahead of a tough season in the Premier League.

The new target is Jean Butez, currently under contract at Royal Antwerp, who had an impressive record between the sticks last season.

Burnley have already made a first bid for the Frenchman, which was rejected, which came around the same time the goalkeeper sat down with an interview with Transfermarkt in France.

Speaking about his career, the former Lille player, who is now 28 years of age, made it clear he has always been an ambitious person, and that hasn’t changed.

While Burnley aren’t mentioned directly in the interview, Butez didn’t shy away from discussing a potential move to England.

Asked if now was the right time for a change, he said: “Yes, Antwerp a rather open to sales and I’m keen to move too. I have to think about my career plan, about what could present itself. It’s special to say, but I don’t have a preference. There are positive things to take from each league. In France, because I’m French. In England, because it’s considered the best league in the world.

“Spain, for its football and the quality of life that goes with it. It’s also the project that will determine my choice. If the adventure with Antwerp continues, it will be with new objectives in mind, with the European Cup, with a title to defend, etc… It can be a season with great ambitions. But if there’s a transfer, it will be a new destination and a new league. In either case, only nice things will happen.”

So, Burnley now know what to do if they want to sign Butez: give Antwerp enough money, all the while convincing the 28-year-old that a move to Turf Moor would be beneficial for him.

The goalkeeper made 52 appearances in all competitions last season, conceding 42 goals all the while keeping 27 clean sheets.
