Everton’s striker search has hit a few roadblocks as some of their top targets have joined other clubs or are in the process of joining other clubs. Everton still has a few names on their list that are attainable with Burnley striker Wout Weghorst mentioned as a possible target.

EFC’s poor finances have crippled them in the transfer window, leaving them with no option but to see some of their top targets join other clubs. Viktor Gyokeres is the prime example. EFC had been keen on the Swedish striker since January but have failed to sign him. This summer, Sporting came in and were confident of getting the deal done despite initial offers being knocked down.

Gyokeres also chose Sporting and a concrete offer from Everton never arrived. In the end, EFC cooled down their interest when it was clear that Gyokeres would join Sporting. Almeria striker El Bilal Toure is also an attractive prospect and EFC have reportedly proposed a five year deal to Bilal Toure. However, Atalanta seem close to securing the transfer as the Serie A outfit is ready to pay around €20 million for the Malian international.

The Toffees also had Leeds United’s Rodrigo on their shortlist but the Spaniard has decided to sign for Qatari side Al Rayyan. Earlier in the summer transfer window, Everton were linked with Burnley striker Wghorst but the links eventually faded only to appear again.

According to 90min, EFC manager Sean Dyche is eyeing a reunion with Weghorst at Goodison Park. The Dutchman was signed by Dyche at Burnley in January 2022. Weghorst made 20 appearances for the Clarets scoring twice and assisting three times. He spent the first half of the last season on loan at Besiktas, enjoying good goalscoring form as he notched nine goals in 18 games.

Impressed by his performances, Manchester United signed him on loan for the remainder of the season. He did not get going at Old Trafford and Manchester United decided not to sign him permanently. The 30 year old is back at Burnley but his place is not guaranteed and there are chances of him leaving the Clarets.

Weghorst also has interest from Turkey, where he enjoyed his stint with Besiktas. Everton need a solid and physical striker and the 30 year old ticks those boxes. His first stint with Dyche wasn’t exactly fruitful but this time around, things could be different.
