Leeds United have shortlisted Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson in the search for their next manager, sources have told Football Insider.

The Yorkshire giants confirmed on Friday (2 June) that Sam Allardyce will not see his contract renewed after taking charge of the final four games of the season.

Leeds have now turned their attention to securing a replacement and have placed Tomasson on their shortlist of targets after his impressive 2022-23 campaign with Blackburn.

It is believed Blackburn are braced for an approach from the recently-relegated giants and are already drawing up a list of potential replacements for the 46-year-old.

The Whites’ admiration stems from the playing style implemented by the Dane – which is similar to revered ex-Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa.

Blackburn boss Tomasson mostly employed a high-tempo 4-2-3-1 formation which has proved fluid and interchangeable – and displayed the same level of high-intensity pressing as seen under Bielsa at Elland Road.

He also made a strong impression during his time in charge of Swedish giants Malmo, and a well-placed Leeds source has told Football Insider that he is increasingly seen as “the next Bielsa” by those inside the club.

Up to now, the former Newcastle and AC Milan forward has stayed under the radar of football’s elite clubs despite his successful career as a player.

He won 26 of a possible 55 games in charge at Blackburn in the 2022-23 campaign – his first in English football.

The Rovers missed out on a playoff place by virtue of goal difference after a thrilling campaign.

Tomasson signed a contract running until June 2025 when he arrived at Ewood Park last summer (2022).

Football Insider revealed on Friday (2 June) that Leeds United have identified three priority positions for the summer window regardless of who comes in as manager.

The Whites will look to add new faces at left-back, central midfield and in attack.
