Although Nottingham Forest’s hectic summer deadline day didn’t seem like it was long ago, the January transfer window is drawing near.

When the window reopens, it is unlikely that the Reds will have too much work to do. Thirteen new players were brought in during the summer, most of them have begun to have an effect in the Premier League.

However, January may still turn out to be a crucial month because the team is keen to advance this season. We examine potential transfer targets for Forest, although there is still much to be determined.

However, January may still turn out to be a crucial month because the team is keen to advance this season. We examine potential transfer targets for Forest, although there is still much to be determined.

The Reds added forward Divock Origi on loan from AC Milan to increase their offensive threat during the summer. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga were also included.

But it’s a major setback to lose Taiwo Awoniyi for a month because of an injury. And it implies that Forest might take another look at up front in January.

They have not been able to score lately, despite some excellent build-up play that did not result in goals. Since their 3-2 loss to Manchester United in August, Steve Cooper’s team has not scored more than once in a single game. In their last five league games, they have scored three goals.

Finding loan movements
With 13 acquisitions made during the summer transfer window, the Reds have a strong core currently. However, it can be challenging for players to push their way in because Cooper is eager to build a reasonably stable team.

That seems to be the situation with Brandon Aguilera. Although the 20-year-old pleased Cooper during the preseason, he has only made one first-team appearance this season, coming in as a substitute in the Carabao Cup loss to Burnley.

According to the head coach of Forest, Aguilera’s condition will be reevaluated in January. And by then, it’s possible that another loan is thought to be optimal for his growth.

“We are having fun creating a program for this young guy. However, that will be with us through January for the longer term, at which point we will reevaluate it, Cooper stated in August.

George Shelvey, a young goalkeeper, might also gain from a stint abroad. He expressed in the summer that he would be willing to go out on loan and that he wanted to play frequently.
